Our Story:Policies and guidelines

From Our Story

Our Story is intended to be a forum for Washington State University alumni, faculty, staff, students, and friends to share their memories about WSU and create a collaborative, informal history of the university.

The policies and guidelines for Our Story express standards for authors and editors to follow. Policies are considered a standard that all editors should follow, whereas guidelines are more advisory in nature.

Our Story Policies

Deletion

Pages will be deleted by Our Story staff if they contain:

  • Blatant copyright infringement
  • Blatant advertising
  • Pure vandalism. This includes blatant and obvious misinformation.
  • Material requested by the author for deletion.
  • Material that serves no purpose but to disparage or threaten their subject or some other entity (e.g., "John Q. Doe is an imbecile"). These are sometimes called "attack pages". This includes legal threats, and may also include a biography of a living person that is entirely negative in tone and unsourced, where there is no neutral version in the page history to revert to. Administrators deleting such pages should not quote the content of the page in the deletion summary, and if the page is an article about a living person it should not be restored or recreated by any editor until it meets biographical article standards.
  • No content.

Users

  • Users must have real names, not just "anonymous" user names. Our Story is designed as a shared history, and transparency is important for this new WSU community resource. Users will not have e-mail addresses revealed (unless they choose), and can choose not reveal any other personal information. However, we hope Our Story will grow out of trust, a common pride in WSU, and an honest desire to work together on the history of the university.
  • Users will be blocked if they purposely or repeatedly violate the policies which lead to page deletion (listed above).

Guidelines

Do not use Our Story to promote yourself, your website, or your organization.

Profanity: Words and images that might be considered offensive, profane, or obscene by other readers should be used if and only if their omission would cause the article to be less informative, relevant, or accurate, and no equally suitable alternatives are available.
